All-rounder Mahmullah was named captain of Gazi Tank Cricketers for the Dhaka Premier League that gets underway on Tuesday. Satellite Channel NTV chairman Alhaj Mosaddek Ali and club chairman Mohammad Lutfur Rahman handed over the jersey to new captain at a programme at the NTV office in BSEC Bhaban on Sunday. Opening batsman Imrul Kayes was named as the vice-captain for the club.
New captain Mahmudullah is optimistic to put up a championship fight with the squad that has at his disposal. New Zealand cricketer Scott Stryis and Sri Lankan all-rounder kaushalya weeraratne will join the squad before Tuesday’s opening match against Khelaghor Samaj Kallyan Samity at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
“We have a blend of young and experienced players who are capable of giving a championship fight. However, it all depends on how we perform on a given day. Hopefully with the addition of foreign cricketers our team will have a nice, positive balance,” said captain Mahmudllah.
Coach Sarwar Imran reckoned Gazi Tank Cricketers as one of the top teams after the newly introduced players’ recruitment system.
“After the new players by choice transfer, there are not too many differences between the teams. Still we have some good, quality cricketers whom we really wanted in our side. I believe they are capable of winning the title,”
