Bangladesh’s Test and Twenty20 skipper Sakib al Hasan is all set to join Barbados Tridents in the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League after he received no objection certificate from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
An official of the BCB confirmed that Sakib would depart for West Indies today after taking part in the tri-nation Twenty20 final against Afghanistan and is expected to return before Bangladesh start their preparation for India tour.
The Tigers are scheduled to tour India in November to take part in the three-match Twenty20 internationals and two Test match series, starting from November 3 in Delhi.
The final of the CPL will take place on October 12 and Bangladesh team is expected to start their preparation camp at home from mid-October.
‘We have given him the NOC to take part in the CPL. We are expecting him to be available before the preparation for the series against India though we are yet to finalise the date of his return,’ BCB’s cricket operation committee chairman Akram Khan said on Tuesday.
Sakib will replace Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane who will leave Barbados for national duty.
Barbados in a statement informed that they were expecting Sakib to join the team ahead of their match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Kensington Oval on September 29.
Akram also informed that they did not issue the NOC to Afif Hossain, who had been picked by St Kitts in the players’ draft event.
Afif was previously denied the NOC for taking part in the ongoing edition of CPL as he was being considered for the national team for the tri-nation Twenty20 series, involving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
Sakib didn’t participate in the last edition of CPL due to an injury problem and was replaced by Australia’s Steve Smith.
Sakib’s Barbados are currently in the fourth place of the six-team event winning two out of their six matches in the ongoing edition of the tournament.
