The three days’ break on all training activities at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, which was imposed on Thursday, is likely to get extended for few more days, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board is trying to restart the programme in a more organised way.
The individual training session of cricketers in Mirpur was called off for three days after a member of the support staff started showing COVID-19 like symptoms.
BCB chief medical officer Debashis Chowdhury told that the concerned departments are working on restarting the activities after few more days, in a better way.
‘Most likely we are going to extend the break for few more days. We have some meetings among ourselves. It’s also been a long time since the players started practicing and the series is also few more days away. So, they need a break also,’ Debashis told.
‘We want to make a fresh start. We will be more vigilant, we will increase monitoring and we will be stricter about maintaining health protocols,’ he added.
The players’ training in Mirpur will most likely resume after September 10, as the board is planning to test all players and support staff for the virus on that day, informed Debashis.
National team’s physiotherapist Julien Calefato and head of physical performance Nicholas Trevor Lee, have already arrived in Bangladesh with the former already completing his quarantine period and the latter set to complete his two-week quarantine on September 10.
Head coach Russel Domingo is also on his way to Bangladesh and is expected to reach Dhaka today.
‘[I am] in Dubai, will land in Dhaka at midnight tomorrow [today],’ Domingo told on Saturday afternoon through a WhatsApp message.
After arriving in Dhaka, Domingo will get tested for the virus and will stay in quarantine for a few days, said Debashis.
‘We are in talks with DGHS. He may have to go through a corona test and has to be found negative before joining the training camp with whole squad.’
Meanwhile, individual practice sessions in other venues of the country are going on per schedule, with stadium authorities paying extra attention to maintain a safe training environment.
‘We are always very careful about hygiene and safety and yes, after practice got halted in Mirpur, we have become more careful,’ venue manager of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Joydip Das- New Age.
