Two wickets by Ben Stokes in three balls left Bangladesh heartbroken as England sealed 22 run-win in the first Test in Chittagong on the fifth day on Monday.
Needing 33 runs for their historic first win over England, Bangladesh could add just 10 runs to their overnight 253-8 before they were all out for 263 runs in chase of 286-run target.
Sabbir Rahman, the overnight half-centurion, left stranded on 64 as Stokes took care of Taijul Islam and Shafiul Islam in his second over.
He had Taijul Islam leg before for 16 with the help of a review after umpire Kumar Dharmasena initially turned down the muted appeal.
The review was available for England only in the previous over and they decided to use it for a surprising result as replay suggested that the ball struck Taijul perfectly in the line.
Tajiul, who shuffled across the line left in disbelief and two balls later it was end of the game after another review.
This time it was though Bangladesh’s turn to ask for review as Dharamsena declared Shafiul Islam out lbw for a duck.
The replay again came to England’s favour as Hawk-Eye indicated that the ball was hitting off stump meaning it was umpire’s call.
It brought an end to a thrilling battle when both teams fancied their chances in patches throughout the five days.
It also meant England have maintained their perfect record against Bangladesh winning all nine matches.
The second and final Test will start in Dhaka on October 28.
