The Tigers are seeking a clean sweep in the three-match series when they take on the visitors in the third and final one-dayer on Wednesday.
If they can be successful, Pakistan will be the fourth ICC full member after West Indies, New Zealand and Zimbabwe to suffer the fate against them.
Odds are certainly in favour of Tigers now,’ especially after two compressive wins in the first two matches. Tigers were never short of enthusiasm when they defeated Pakistan after 16 years but their expression after the wins only reminded that they had full trust in their ability.
The same Bangladesh team gave a lap of honour after their win against Afghanistan in World Cup. While that was a kind of lap of relief, Bangladesh were still criticised for showing so much enthusiasm after winning against an associate member.
However, unlike the World Cup, which they had began under immense pressure after a poor build up, they started the Pakistan series as somewhat favourites.
Despite a dismal record against Pakistan, they had been expected to win this time, not as convincing as they came though.
Some members of the side said on Monday that they put their celebration on hold until the final game, which has come as another example of their new-found confidence.
‘It is a problem if we are satisfied with little achievement,’ said left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny. ‘We did not think that much about the celebration and were rather more concerned with our performances.
‘This is not our last series. Now the more we win, the more confidence we will get which can only inspire us to do well in the coming days,’ said Arafat.
This philosophy is said to be instilled by coach Chandika Hathurusinghe, who, according to the players, has asked them to stay positive irrespective of any target.
Skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza also gave the full credit to Hathurusinghe as he had given the players the freedom they needed to play their games without compromising with his principles.
‘He always gave us the freedom to play our game,’ said Mashrafee after the second match. ‘It allowed us to have the belief in our own ability. When we started to have that [freedom] it raised our performance level,’ he said.
Hathurusinghe allowed the players to enjoy their time on Monday, without asking them to endure the rigor of training after such a comprehensive win.
Some players – Soumya Sarker, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman
along with Abul Hasan, Rony Talukder and Mominul Haque still opted to train and went to Mirpur to sweat it out. –
