Swadhin Bangla Football team striker AKM Nawsheruzzaman passed away on Monday night after fighting with COVID-19 for around 14 days, informed Nawsher’s cousin Sayeeduzzaman.
He was 72.
Nawsher was admitted to Mugda General Hospital in early September with COVID-19 and was shifted to Green Life Hospital before being admitted at Ibn Sina Hospital in the capital where he breathed last at around 9:00pm.
He left behind his wife, one son, one daughter and host of well wishers to mourn his death.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 10:00am today and a second namaz-e-janaza will be held in Munshiganj after Johor prayer.
He will be buried at a graveyard in his home district in Chandpur after another namaz-e-janaza post Maghrib prayer.
‘During his life time he spent some years in Munshiganj. So we decided to bring his body there for a namaz-e-janaza before moving to his village home in Chandpur,’ said Sayeeduzzaman.
He served the national team from 1973 to 1976.
During his club career, he played for Railway, Wari Club, Fire Service and Victoria Sporting club before the independence and played for Wapda [1972-1974], Mohammedan Sporting Club [1975-1977] and Dhaka Wanderers [1978-1980] after the independence. -new age
