He is under surveillance, says police
Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife, who were sued for torturing their 10-year old domestic help, went on hiding to avoid arrest, said police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police high officials told New Age that Shahadat was ‘under police surveillance’.
‘He could be arrested soon… He is not outside the capital’, said DMP’s Mirpur division additional deputy commissioner, Masud Ahmed.
The investigation officer of the case, Mirpur police sub-inspector Shafiqur Rahman said Shahadat and his wife went into hiding since Sunday night. His house in Mirpur was found locked.
Meanwhile, the victim, Mahfuza Akter Happy, 10, was now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s One-Stop Crisis Centre.
‘Panic grips over her… she has passed a horrified torture,’ said Bilkis Begum, coordinator of OCC.
Happy, who was brutally tortured at her eye, leg and waist, was rescued injured at Pallabi in the capital on Sunday night.
She escaped from Shahadat’s house at Block-H, Section-2 of Mirpur on Sunday morning. A police team rescued Happy from a street in Pallabi area on Sunday night.
A case was filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Mirpur Police Station on Sunday night, said Mirpur police officer-in-charge Bhuyan Mahbub Hossain.
The IO said the house of Shahadat was found locked from outside since Sunday night.
‘We are trying to locate him using different technology,’ the IO said.
Shafiqur said the police sought help from Shahadat’s fellow cricketers to find him.
