International Cricket Council confirmed interim changes to its playing regulations, which included ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball and COVID-19 substitutions only in Test matches.
The ICC chief executives committee ratified recommendations from the Cricket Committee aimed at mitigating the risks posed by the COVID-19 virus and maintaining the safety of players and match officials.
According to new rules circulated by a media release from ICC, teams will be allowed to replace players displaying symptoms of COVID-19 only during Tests. In line with concussion replacements, the match referee will approve the nearest like-for-like replacement.
Players will not be permitted to use saliva to shine the ball. Umpires will issue up to two warnings if a player applies saliva to the ball and repeated use would cost the team a five-run penalty.
Whenever saliva is applied to the ball, the umpires will clean the ball before play recommences.
ICC also approved non-neutral umpires due to travel restrictions and gave an additional referral to both teams.
Meanwhile, the ICC also relaxed its restriction on apparel logos for the next 12 months.
