Bangladesh Cricket Board has shut down the junior Tigers preparation camp at BKSP on Monday as few of the cricketers were showing symptoms of coronavirus infection.
The camp was earlier closed for three days on Thursday for the COVID-19 scare and after the next month’s Under-19 Asia Cup got cancelled, BCB felt it was best to call off the camp entirely.
‘We called off the camp as the Asia cup is not going to take place and we are also facing some medical issues. Therefore we have decided to shut down the camp,’ game development manager AEM Kawsar told.
‘In future, when we will have any assignments coming up or if the situation permits, the camp will resume,’ he added.
All 28 players, coaches and related support staff had given their samples for testing and those who are showing COVID-like symptoms are currently in isolation, said Kawsar.
‘We have handed over the players who were showing COVID-like symptoms and their roommates for isolation under BCB medical department.’
BCB’s chief physician Debashis Chowdhury also confirmed New Age that some cricketers are staying in isolation at the board’s facility.
‘We have kept a few cricketers in isolation and the number may increase after we get the results of COVID-19 tests,’ told Debashis. -new age
