Nasir Hossain fell five runs short of his maiden triple century on the final day of the 19th National Cricket League in Chittagong on Saturday.
Rangpur skipper Nasir, who was unbeaten on 270 overnight, was dismissed by unheralded Barisal bowler Linkon Dey for 295 runs during their match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Nasir, who had the chance to become only second Bangladeshi player to score a triple ton after Roqibul Hasan struck unbeaten 313 runs against Sylhet in 2008, hit 32 fours and three sixes in 510 balls innings.
After Nasir,’s dismissal, Rangpur declared their first innings on 614-7, replying to Barisal 335.
Meanwhile, Khulna beat Dhaka by an innings and 49 runs on the final day to claim their third consecutive title at the BKSP.
Needing 346 runs to make Khulna bat again, Dhaka were all out 297 runs in the second innings.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz claimed 3-89 runs in the second innings to complete his 10-wicket haul in the match, which earned him the man of the match.
It is the record sixth title for Khulna in country’s top first-class competition.
