After withdrawing himself from Bangladesh’s three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals against Sri Lanka, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will also miss the two Tests of the series.
Cricket operations chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Jalal Yunus told the media about the development on Thursday.
‘Shakib has taken a break from the entire Sri Lanka series. So, he is not going to feature in the Test series as well,’ said Jalal.
Earlier on February 13, BCB announced the squad for the T20Is and the first two ODIs without Shakib.
The all-rounder’s latest omission means he will miss two Tests that are part of the third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
The T20I series will begin on March 4 in Sylhet, the ODI series on March 13 in Chattogram, and the Test series on March 22 in Sylhet. The second Test of the series will be in Chattogram from March 30.
Jalal also confirmed that they will sit with Tamim Iqbal following the conclusion of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League to know his plans for his international career as he has opted not to feature for the national side since he omitted himself from the 2023 World Cup squad.
‘Our honourable board president has told me and many of us to sit with him [Tamim]. It is not too far from the conclusion of the BPL. We will sit with him after the tournament,’ he said. -new age
