Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan on Friday tested negative for COVID-19 and is now free to start his training camp at the BKSP, confirmed a family member of the player.
Shakib gave his sample for RT PCR test on Wednesday, the same day he returned from the USA after staying there with his family for around five months.
The test was conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services and the result came out on Friday, which declared him free from COVID-19 infection.
‘He [Shakib] landed at midnight and the following morning, three people came and collected his sample. The result came at Friday noon, which says that he is COVID negative,’ said a family member of Shakib who sought anonymity.
BKSP director general Brigadier General Rashidul Hassan had earlier told that Shakib had to obtain a COVID-19 negative certificate before entering the BKSP premises.
The 33-year old is now clear to begin his specialised training programme at BKSP, his alma mater, where his childhood mentors are going to bring him back to top condition to ensure he can make a seamless return to international cricket.
Shakib, who is in the final two months of his year-long suspension, is currently at his Banani residence but will soon leave for BKSP, said the family member.
‘Now, he will take rest for two-three days and make some errands as well. After that he will go to BKSP.’
Shakib is currently serving a one-year suspension from cricket, imposed by the ICC, for not disclosing multiple contacts with bookmaker Deepak Agarwal.
Shakib’s sanction will end on October 29, making him free to return to the Tigers side from the second Test of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka. -new age
