Chief selector Minhajul Abedin on Thursday dismissed the report of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan claiming highest score in the fitness test saying that he was only close to the pass mark.
Bangladesh Cricket Board strength and conditioning coach Tusher Kanti Howlader earlier on the day said that Shakib, who missed all competitive action in the past one year due to suspension, was at the peak of his physical condition during the tests.
‘Shakib passed the test. He scored 13-plus, which is one of the best in the fitness test. You can say he scored the highest’, Tusher told.
According to Tusher, there are some other cricketers, who scored above 12 though he couldn’t name all of them.
Minhajul contradicted the claim adding that Tusher was not even present when Shakib attended the test.
‘Shakib went very close to the benchmark, which is 11. He was very close. How Tushar could tell it, he was not even there?’ said Minhajul.
BCB cleared Shakib for the Bangabandhu Cup T20 tournament despite the confusion over his fitness test result and put him in A category for Thursday’s draft.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from the third week of November. -new age
