All cricketers and support staff of the national and Under-19 teams have tested negative for COVID-19 after their results came in on Thursday, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board officials.
Bangladesh pacer Abu Jayed, who was found to be COVID-19 positive in an earlier test, also tested free of the virus but he was still unlikely to join the national team’s training session, said Bangladesh Cricket board’s chief physician Debashis Chowdhury.
‘Rahi [Jayed] is now corona negative, medically he is fine. But as he was out of action for few days, he might not be able to cope up with rest of the team. So we are yet to make a decision about him, maybe we will send him back home. He is unlikely to enter the bio-bubble for now,’ Debashis said.
After the series against Sri Lanka got called off on Monday, BCB president Nazmul Hasan announced that domestic cricket will resume shortly and the national team’s camp will also continue for another 15 days.
In line with that, second phase of skill training under bio-security bubble began on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, where they will also play three practice matches, the first of which will begin today.
The two-day match will be the first match for the Bangladesh cricketers in over six months, as they have been out of action since the Dhaka Premier League got put on hold in mid-March.
Meanwhile, the 29 cricketers of the new batch of Under-19 team joined their skill training camp at BKSP after of them tested negative in the latest corona test, said Abu Emam Kawsar, game development manager of BCB.
‘All the cricketers tested COVID-19 negative. They are already in BKSP,’ Kawsar said.
